Product photography for ecommerce, packshots and campaigns
A product page lives or dies on its photographs. A buyer who can't pick the thing up will judge its colour, its weight and its quality from a few images, and a campaign needs pictures that make people want it before they've read a word.
The formats you'll need
Most brands need a mix. Packshots show the product cleanly on a plain background from every angle a buyer would want. Lifestyle images show it in use, in a real setting, at a believable scale. Flat-lays suit ranges and sets. Clothing is often shot on a ghost mannequin, which shows the shape of a garment without a visible model. A 360-degree spin lets a buyer turn the product on screen.
Marketplaces have their own rules. The main image usually has to sit on a pure white background with the product filling most of the frame, and there are conventions for the supporting images too. We shoot marketplace sets to those rules so your listings aren't rejected or buried.
Campaign photography
Campaign images do a different job from a product page. They carry the idea of a launch across posters, social, press and the shop window, and they usually need a location or a built set, styling, sometimes a model, and a photographer working to a creative direction.
We plan campaign stills with the same brief as everything else in the launch, so the hero image, the packshots and any film or CGI share a look. When one image has to work as a tall poster, a square social post and a wide web banner, it is composed with room for every crop before the shutter is pressed.
Colour you can trust
Returns often start with a colour that looked different on screen. We light and shoot against the physical sample, manage colour through to the final files and retouch to match the product rather than an idea of it. Dust, fingerprints and seams are cleaned up. The shape, the texture and the true colour are left alone.
If the same product also appears in a film or a render, the stills are matched to it, so a customer who sees the advert and then the product page sees the same thing.
Stills and video in one session
Lighting, set dressing and product handling take up most of a shoot day. When a product needs photographs and video, shooting both in the same session shares that cost, keeps the look consistent and means the product sample only has to travel once.
Where a lifestyle image needs a setting that doesn't exist, the set is designed and built under one roof, then photographed. That gives you a scene made for your product.
Delivery
Files arrive cropped and sized for each channel, named by product code, and organised so your web team can upload them without renaming a thing. High-resolution masters are kept for print and future crops. A shot list agreed before the day means you know exactly what you are getting, and nothing is missed.
Shoots can be run with you in the room, or remotely with images sent through as they are taken so you can approve each setup before we move on.
About product photography
What is the difference between a packshot and a lifestyle product photo?
A packshot shows the product on its own, usually on a plain background, so a buyer can see exactly what it is. A lifestyle image shows it in use, in a setting, to help a buyer picture owning it. Most product pages need both.
Do marketplace listings need a special kind of product photo?
Yes. Most marketplaces want the main image on a pure white background with the product filling most of the frame, and have rules for the other images too. We shoot marketplace sets to those rules so listings aren't rejected.
How many products can be photographed in one shoot day?
The number depends on the formats and the products. Simple packshots of similar items move quickly; styled lifestyle images, reflective products and anything that needs a built set take longer. We plan the shot list first and give you a realistic schedule from it.
Send us the shot list you have, or the CAD file if the product isn't made yet.
Either is enough to start. The reply sets out how the film, the stills and the renders fit together for your launch.
